Glancing at the calendar, we figured our share of powder was sadly coming to an end here in Japan. But luckily the J snow gods dumped about 30cm of good snow. Sunday had beautiful weather, so we decided to go for a longer hike in search of some new lines.
*Packing up at the trailhead. 2 splitboarders, 3 boarders, 2 skiers:
*Breaking trail after about 1.5 hours. Our target was a south face so we were racing against time. All the while we were passing up some pretty sweet lines below us. Oh well, can't get too greedy:
*Um, it was pretty windy here. It's always like that:
*Ice, steeps and wind convince us half-way up to stow the splits and kick-step to the top (we had Verts with us). Might've been able to skin up with crampons, but nope didn't bring'em today.
*First-tracks by telemarker Otsuka-san. First one up, first on down.
*Short hike back up, then some tai-chi-chuan route-finding:
*Going down the roller-coaster:
All in all a great day. Rode some new lines and will be back for more later.
