that's funny, my wife said the same thing pretty much. It's great you can do your thing but taking unnecissary risks seems senseless, you might be fine 99% of the time but all it takes is one misstep or lack of focus and someone dies. Not preaching at all, just lost friends doing stuff like this.

hey im super stoked yall are still so syked on our freakshow to bump it here, thanx!!!
greg put that footy into a film with more from a couple other trips he did last winter, you mite chek it at the best of tha bomff flim fest tour, if they choose to screen his film at your stop. its a cool flick and g manages to limit his gayness mostly to one super quote!
if ya rilly wants ta kno, fugitive....
-in our safety meeting we debated the virtues of purity against the dizzy rush of dirtyness. i wasted time argueing for both sides, which let chancy get ahead of me havin at the ridge, which incidentally increased my sense of security... just goes ta show!
-way!!! fukin-a!
-conor suggested breakin out the rope, but with the length of the ridge and scarcity of solid anchors we chose to self belay.
-valium was not considered in our safety plan
as for your wifes take, and purcelljays.... well, each to their own i guess. i dont have life insurance and i dont consider risk in terms of 'necessity'. i think the images highlite the perception of risk while the real risk was actually quite low. conseqential, shur, almost like driving, what ya gots ta do is stay between the lines. i think im pretty average in that i would not feel comfortable if i thot my security was only 99% probable, tho of course reality has its way of rounding off the maths. but i personally find that focussing on the most negative motivation is a bit dramatic and somhow less relevant... and one mite note that altho we all gets to die sumtime, missteps usually lead to learning experiences. bin there!
its good to debate tho, and dont let me pretend that i have the answers. thats the great thing about riding backcountry, theres sumthin for everyone out there!!! powder to tha peeples!! peas!

Just got back from the Banff Film Festival in Seattle and they showed this film. I had forgotten about it and when it came on and I saw some of the footage his TR came back to me. Cool film and a cool trip for sure. It seemed to be a hit for the Seattle crowd.

bump for the nice write up in the latest BC Mag.

There was no mention of the Schralp Hawk though.

Interesting, I'll have to find a copy and check that out.

Just saw this film at the Banff tour in Santa Cruz. Man, hats off to you guys. Great flick, and that is just a whole 'nother level of ski mountaineering. Keep it up! (You guys should hook up with bcd and do a film... that would be just scary.)

I liked the "fly rod routefinder" technique. What was that, a rope tied to a pole? Is that so you can avoid crevasses and dropoffs when travelling in whiteout conditions, by flipping the rope ahead and seeing that it doesn't suddenly disappear?

If we're thinking the same scene - the ski pole string affair is to get the string over the lip of the cornice to saw/cut & drop to check avy potential

Just checking to be sure but I'm hoping you guys don't mind I linked to this viddy on a couple of facebook spots. I'm not claiming it for mine - just sharing the stoke - if you mind just say I'll take them down.
