Location: Desolation Wilderness, CA

Weather: bluebird, mild temps, moderate wind on the ridges

Participants: mmcpheet, gimpy, bcrider

Gameplan: snow sliding

Duration: 7 hours or so

Vertical: n/a

Distance: n/a

Beta: see pics, wear silk boxers not long underwear, don't forget the sunscreen, veer left to ridge at beginning of tour to remain on snow

Pics: mmcpheet, bcrider

Intro: Regardless of the lack of fresh snow or the above average temps…there is still snow on the ground and it wont last forever. Gotta get it while you can.
******************************************************************************

South facing, lower elevation stuff is going quick! Veer left.

Pit stop on the ridge.

Cup Lake
Image

Solid ice in the organic remote sensors…yep it's freezing at night. ;)Image

Crystal Range and some jibs off the ridge.
Image

mmcpheet on the summit.
Image

After shooing a little viddy he gets on the other side on the lens and is surprised to find some pseudo powder snow…weeks after the last storm.
Image

Image

Back up the bootpack (thanks gimpy) and its time for another little shot.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Gimpy is surprised by the snow conditions too and takes another run.
Image

Buddy cant say no either.
Image

Image

Image

bcride spies a little line…
Image

sets up…
Image

MEMORY CARD FULL!! Doh!

Doesn't matter I kooked it anyway by stopping at the top to set up, then my turn into it was weak. Didn't look that great but still got the blood pumping. :)

HD frame grab of the choke.
Image

mmcpheet finds another jib.
Image

bcr finds another one too.
Image

but again kooks it by failing to grab.
Image

At least he landed it I guess.
Image

Image

Not satisfied with the missed grab he hits again…but this time the continuous mode isn't quick enough to capture the grab he held for 1/10th. of a second. GAPER!
Image

The viddy got it though.
Image

Looking back.
Image

The corn was getting ripe on the lower slopes so we dropped to the lake.

Normally we exit this tour by climbing the backside of Echo Peak or Angora but this time we decided to skin back up to our bootback to the ridge.

Made great time on a easy grade and found some more ripe corn along the way…too bad we were going up not down.
Image

getting closer…
Image

and closer…
Image

and closer…
Image

and finally at the bootpack to the ridge.
Image

Image

Beta reference pic of Jacks and Dicks, still some great lines to be had.
Image

Looking across to Sierra Tahoe and beyond to Kirkwood.
Image

Once back on the ridge our plan was to drop the south face to Camp Sacramento as opposed to the normal exit.

Still decent corn on top at 2:30pm but half way down it got slow and sticky though.
Image

Gotta love learning new routes too. :)
Image

We didn't veer skiers right enough to make it to Camp Sacramento and ended up at the Private Church Camp on Sierra Pines Rd.
Image

Beta pic of the approach ridge (non standard).
Image

Got home and got some help unloading the rig from Skyler my personal sherpa. :)

Another great day to be out, thanks guys! :thatrocks:

Nice TR guys. The slog in looks tough but the upper stuff looks pretty decent still. Still, I'm ready for next season already...

You guys going to pick up mtn bikes this summer? Ecobrad does up one hell of a mtn bike trip every summer.

Baaahh! That drop looks sick that BCrider is nailing. I gotta get me some of that. And anything with the words desolation in it gets my vote. :thatrocks:

Nice TR!

That dog is rad. Carves like a pro!

Your snowpark looks great, too :)
