Headed up into Garnet Canyon yesterday evening to spend the night, do a little Teton Recon. Against our better judgement and advice from people who probably knew better, we brought skis/boards. The approach was rough (as was the hike out): about 4 miles and a good amount of elevation gain with full overnight packs with boards attached (heavy!).
Got up early this morning, and met up with some friends bearing ski gear and good news. West Hourglass on Nez Perce was in good condition. Skinned/booted to the top in a few hours, didnt quite go all the way due to suspect snow conditions towards the very top. We were (barely) able to ski/ride all the way to the meadows. A solid 1700'+ descent according to me best estimations. Didn't encounter the best snow conditions, but i'm not complaining given the time of year. Mostly a mixture of windpack and dense consolidated powder in the couloir, and plenty rocks to avoid. Managed to avoid any major structural damage to the split, tough.
One pic for now, more action shots coming soon.
Lots of effort for some turns, but i'm glad i got my early season fix out of the way.
