TR: Back-in-the-country Season Starter

The time has come once again. Backcountry gear unpacked from the gear room, batteries changed in the beacon, and a fresh coat of wax on the boards. Finally, after a week of storm systems moving through Wyoming, our season has officially started in the Absarokas. Momentarily, my cravings have been suppressed.

Driving to the mountain it is hard to imagine making any turns.

Once on the pass, it was clear that we would get a tour and some turns in. We skinned up the ridge looker's left in this photo:

Closer to the ascent ridge:

Skinning up the ridge with funky clouds and lighting. It was quite surreal:

A couple of nice lines, but this southeastern slope is still a bit boney.

There could not be a better way to make your first turns of the season down a nice n' tasty couloir. Wyomingsplit_ride gets ready to drop:

Traversing to avoid the cliffs, but I didn't avoid all the rocks. No core shots though.

On our way to stay at the ranch, we spotted a good size herd of pronghorn antelope. What a way to end the first day of the season. May the rest of you have such good tidings too.

Curious why you picked the Freeride over the Mtn. Gun?

Niiiice. Wish I could say our first day(sat) was that good and steep. Nice Antelope pic, my dog almost got into it with a couple of Mooses. Wish I had my camera.

Thanks guys! So nice to get out and skin again. God I love the mountains.

Eco-I am using the freeride right now because that is my rock board. I really do dig the freeride as well...so floaty and responsive in pow.
