This is a very late trip report. We went out on 4-30-06. The crew was Patroller, Dutchmarc, and Andrew Greene. You may notice a lack of Photos of Dutchmarc. Well, I forgot my camera and I swear I took a few shots of him . So he was present.
We all agreeded to meet at the Trail head at 6 am. I have to say this was the most relaxing day in the BC I think I have ever had. After sweating over where to go because of warm temps and big slide, Mt Baden Powell was the Target. Just north of Los Angeles and still in the county, this peak is easy to get to and can supprise you with the length of ride.
Andrew and I get Ready
We started hiking Highway 2 . A lot of people were wondering if the road will open this summer. I say ....
Hell No
We made it to snow at 6:45 and started up this chute
It took about 3 hours to reach the top. I thought it was at the top of the chute we were climbing after all we are still in L.A. and how big a drop can this be? Well after another couple of hours...
We walked over to check the east side. Faces east, strait into the sun, last day of April, southern california...Wait there is snow
So we decided to ride down the east side and then climb back up for the main drop. We got about 800 feet of really wet snow, but the steepness made it fun.
As we started bootpacking back up this
A guy ame skiing down
We booted back up so we had to do another summit shot
We ate a little looked around and stapped in. Dropped north into the trees.
Dutchmarc drops
Andrew
So about now Im thinking I could be doing this or mowing the lawn
We dropped 2200 feet off the north side and ended up a little closer to the cars. We had a short climb out
Twenty minutes later we were in Wrightwood having burgers with the Harley Crowd. It was a great day. Warm Sunny easy and good return for the effort
