May 9,2006. Left Parking area at Rock Creek Lake at 6:30 a.m. My goal was this chute called "chicken little". I left much too early. The chute faces W, so it took awhile to get in the sun to soften up. I decided to take a nap and woke up to take this picture. Time to start moving! I climbed the one in the middle and rode the one to the right you can only see part of. You can easily bag both of these in one day. The problem is conditions change rapidly. It would be best to do the middle one in firmer conditions and boogy back up to get chicken little in soft conditions.

Here's a look at the entrance to chicken little. I waited on top for another hour because the corn on this aspect was being a little stubborn to soften up. It must have been around 1:00ish when I dropped in. The top was premature, "shingly" corn (good though). The middle was nice and ripe w/ a little chowdery/ridgy snow, but very good still. The apron was primo corn.

Sick self portrait half way down. This line is considerable steeper than the middle "main chicken chute". The main chute I climbed up is actually a lot more mellow than it looks.

Rock creek was crawling was people this day. Everywhere I looked I could see little specks traversing across the canyon. I would also hear an occassional "woohoo!". I saw a group of 5 skiers shred the Cat Ears couloir. It's bumped out now. I definitely want that line in the future.

Nice one BG! Those lines look super sweet. Forgive me, but I'm not quite sure where Rock Creek is? BTW, anytime you want to come check out Colorado, let me know, I'll be happy to show you around my neck of the woods. With our tricky snowpack, spring is definately the time to do bolder lines around here.

Rock creek is close to Mammoth Lakes, CA. And yeah, I definitely want to check out CO sometime. Spring sounds sweet. Your snowpack scares the crap out of me to go any other time:). I'll let you know. Likewise here in the Sierras. I usually go solo cuz all my buddies have important "jobs" or kids to deal with. Where's the priorities, man!
