I will try and update this thread as I go, but for the past month I have been snowboarding in Hokkaido, Japan. I decided to rent a Toyota bB and do the Cardanchi thing.
The first week I spent riding the resort at Rusutsu to get my snowboarding legs back.
Japan has the perfect setup for living in a car, as there are onsens (hotsprings) for a small fee literally all over the country that you can bath in. I found this random Super Sento (public bathhouse) which for $8 has several onsens, a restaurant, hot stones, massage facilities, library, beds, lounges, kids areas.
Some Sapporo sightseeing.
The famous ramen alley where Anthony Bourdain ate.
Lake Toya was beautiful. Got to see Yotei from a different aspect.
Otaru was nice too.
Noribetsu to check out Jigokudani (Hell Valley)
discovered this little gem while driving around the shiretoko peninsula. the views were incredible. There isnt any information on this place and I'd bet Im the first person to split this little hill
Some Olympic Speed Skater Training
The main goal of this season in Japan has been to ride Mount Rishiri on Rishiri Island. It is a volcano in the middle of the ocean off the north coast of Hokkaido. Only our group of 8 foreigners will ski here this year.
drove past this little place with lots of bc options.
did a solo mission to summit mount pon, the little brother of Rishiri, snow was great.
Its was very difficult to take good pics on Rishiri due to the brutal weather. In fact, We never saw her.
guided with hokkaido powder guides. we used sleds for the approach.
I summited yotei today solo, and in winter which is rare due to weather. Rode into the crater but visibility was bad so it wasnt great skiing in there. took less than 4 hours to summit which surprised me as most people seem to take 6-7 hours.
