the plan was simple, pack as much food and gear in as we will need to do what ever the weather dictates.
it snowed
40cm of storm snow on the road, dropped the snow donkeys and loaded them down with gear. cruised in an spent half the day setting up. Alaskan class 5 digging.
it kept snowing
after that we figured we had better go on a scouting mission. some first class sno-mo shoveling. 60 cm's of snow fell during the day. turned into a sled assisted back country digging session, "Bring your shovel". we got to say things like "I'm not stuck, I'm just tipped over", it was deep enough that if you did not stop pointing down hill you had to dig your self out. the guy setting the track had over head face shots. 4pm soaking wet, we had the the skins on and tried to go for a walk. took an hour to gain 100m of elevation. Riding 30km back to camp in the dark, sled bouncing off the walls of the trench like an amusement ride.
it snowed the whole time.
coming home to a fire and a place to dry out and sip whiskey can not be over stated, out side it was still snowing.
its not too often that there is good snow to valley bottom, so the next day we stuck close to home. setting out just before 9am we did not top out till 3:30 pm. during that time there was always some one out front breaking trail. sliding 1100m down to valley bottom with time for a 2/3 lap.
it was still snowing
after that, the lure of the skin track was too great. with 20-30cm dropping daily, and a skin track leading to 1100m of pure fall line tree skiing, we put it to use.
and then it was time to leave, it stopped snowing. thanks to Spoon, Poacher, Blaze and DoZer for the effort and the photos.
