Saturday we rode over Mt Snoqualmie via the Crooked Couloir. In this photo it's the bowl from the top that turns lookers right in the middle. Photo from ProSki's website.


We started up the Commonwealth Basin around 8:45. It's easy to make quick time up the skin track and over the creek crossing to the West. We traversed around Guy Peak and had to break trail to the saddle between Guye and Snoqualmie. From there we headed up the South Ridge to the summit. This face was severely wind or rain affected. It was hard to tell what the cause was, but the result was very firm snow/ice. I was breaking trail and could barely get an edge in, even a quarter inch deep. I left my Mr. Chomps at home (like an idiot), so I pulled out my axe and after some clumsy skinning I switched to booting with crampons.

We set up a quick belay so Jackson could ski cut the north slope we hadn't seen all day. He cut across a few times and stomped repeatedly with no result.


This initial face had some good snow, just a few inches deep.

Luckily caught himself with his whippet before sailing off the 50 footer below


It was super filled in, just a small layer of dust on crust. For the previous pic's I was standing directly above the cliff on the left.


Brent found enough snow at the bottom to make some good turns


We booted out over the ridge via a really steep slot (45 or 50 degrees?) and rode down next to the Phantom slide path


All the lines we could see on the N side of Snoqualmie were filled in and good to go.

seems like you guys have been getting after it! looks like a fun day. i need to give that area a little more attention next time there's some low elevation snow.
