Instead of chugging champagne all night on New Years Eve, we decided to get up early, grab the champagne (and rainiers) and head up to Alpental for a celebration.
About a half hour in and we were up out of the clouds and on our way up to Chair Peak. It was Sara's first time trying kick turns so we had an adventure getting up for sure.
We booted up the little notch over the east ridge at about 5500' and then skinned another few hundred vertical to the north ridge of Chair at 5900'. This section was pretty hard to traverse; a bit wind blown and pretty steep. A fall would've meant a long slide. Here's the panoramic view west from that spot with Kaleetan in the center.
We descended north to Snow Lake.
Still able to find fun snow despite it being ridden the last 4 days
You could almost ice climb some of these, they were huge!
Looking back up the run
We skinned across Snow and back over to Source Lake and out to the lot. Popped the champagne around 5 and head to the North Bend B&G for some bacon cheeeeeseburgers and $9 pitchers. Good way to start the year.
