Baker wilderness 10-26-12

Hooked up with Ale Capone, BS, and Leeland(sp?) yesterday to get some in the Baker area. We decided to head towards Hadley Peak. Ben wasn't feeling like pushing the vanagon up the snowy road (can't blame him), so we parked well before the trailhead parking lot and decided to go for the Cascadian approach instead of skinning the road at around 9am. We boot packed maybe 1000 vert through some tight trees and a pillow field, then got to a place where we could start skinning.

We ended up reaching the zone around 1:30 or so, scoped some lines and started heading that way, around 2:45 we got sopped in clouds and came up on a nice line and decided to drop. The snow was amazing, stable waist deep blower. Skinned back up and while debating another line, with the skin track set, we decided we should probably start heading back as it was quite a trek.

We decided to skin back the summer trail and road instead of the bushwhacking way we approached, and reached the car at around 8 pm after skinning and skiing with headlamps for a couple hours.

All in all a great day with some of the deepest October pow I've laid a track in.

Sounds like a perfect day. I get so envious of you north cascades folk sometimes ... I may just move to bellingham.

Thanks, Hopefully this next week doesn't get to warm and wash all the goodness away. Looks like there's great early season conditions all over right now! Hopefully its a good winter :thumpsup:

I wish that was true for down here. It's been a freaking monsoon ever since this storm came in. I was hoping we would catch a break with a cold front :cry:

You get a nice dump one week just to be wiped out by a tropical front the next, what a cock-tease. Well, I'm glad you were able to find other people.

i went up to heliotrope with two other friends yesterday the 27th and we had a good time. it rained pretty much the whole time we were on the trail and around 5500 ft it started to snow. it was good deep powder near the top but quickly became very heavy and wet.

that was a fun day and a great start to my season. nice meeting you and nice video edit, too (although a little light on the bushwhacking footage)!

i'm still trying to remember how to take photos in cascade winter lighting; here's a couple... the rest will be in the early season TR that i'll start once i get a few more photos of my new van.

Rad shots Ben. I shoulda broke out the camera more, as that was quite the bushwhack, and I wish I got more shots of you guys riding....next time...
