One of my favourite tours last season. Late March with our biggest snowpack in memory. Another cheap heli drop to start the day.
Just before 7, Pemberton helipad. Twin Goat Mtn is the middle of the three peaks where the sun is about to rise.
Looking down at Lillooet Lake
Scoping Twin Goat from the heli, the chute we chose is far lookers left behind the ridge casting the shadow.
Looking down the upper part of the chute
Our planned exit route, up the drainage, to the col, then climb Slalok(the highest peak on the left), then dropping down the other(north) side. Mount Spetch and Mount Hartzell right of the col. Matier behind on the right.
Looking back at Lilooet Lake/Pemberton/Mt Currie
Derek and I checking out Shaun's entrance
The view from above
After years racing World Cup SBX, Derek gets his pow on.
In the chute, looking back up
Looking down.Even though it was as a big a snowpack as we've ever seen it cliffed out at the bottom. Made for some challenging route finding to get out to the drainage.
Starting the walk out
Here I am laying in the skintrack
Climbing with Twin Goat in the background
Shaun, stoked to be exiting the sketchy isothermic south slope. It was a tense hour.
Shaun, climbing up Slalok. The three Joffre Lakes below him, then the highway. Cayoosh Mtn behind, where I spent the previous 2 days.
Toby had to be back in Whistler by 3 to pick up the kids. He skied out the Matier Glacier icefall with Johnny while we went up Slalok.
I took first tracks down Slalok. After the first 1000' I set off a surface slab in the main gully. Was pretty sure it would pop, so I had the camera ready.
Shaun, skiers right of the ice. You can see how far the sluff ran
Derek, stoked after his first heli drop
We rode out the trail to the highway to a shuttled truck.
After research and asking around we found out it was a first descent on Twin Goat.
