Saturday 2/11, Chronicracing, Aussie Elliot and myself hit up Mt. Thielsen with some other AT skiers near Diamond Lake in southern Oregon. I knew the area was prime as I'd been to Crater Lake before and was stoked to hit it. Also I'd seen photos of the NW face of Thielsen from a Bailey TR earlier in the Season and it was on the hit list.
Mellow skin in through some open meadows. The world looks very different when you get away from Mt. Hood...
Took me a mile before I realized my skis were on backwards. I blame the lack of espresso in my system at 8am.
The ridge climbs quick and smiles abound.
Very nice. Can't wait to get up there.
For once the skiers are lagging.
Chronic ponders the SW bowl.
Decision time. Our group included summiteers. I was sick of climbing and wanted to ride.
...so I did. Nice dry sun softened powder over a crust.
...always good when you can see this when riding in the PNW.
...sick lines to be had out towards Crater Lake. Next time...
Lunch tastes better when your wife packs it for you.
This is what we came for. The NW face you can see from Bailey.
Snow was firm and fresh. Definitely edgable and rippable. A nice change of pace after the last few trips to Helens and Hood. Below 7000 the snow turned to crap and we ended up bushwhacking out with headlamps...
But thanks to Chronic we had a line on some local natural hot springs which made for a very nice soak after a long day. Sorry no photos, too many nekkid ladies...

Thanks again Jefe, for piloting the Japanese rocket car. Much love for keeping the lid on the springs. Great weekend, I'd love to jump back on that south bound train. C.racing.

Good stuff! I love the pic of the older dude who has 5 different things hanging from him. Gadgeted OUT!
LOL that guy was nice enough but kept making jokes clowning on people for having too many gadgets when riding. Go figure. Course he dragged all that stuff up to the summit, so gotta give him props for that...
