Here are a couple of photos from a short foray into the bowl of Tuckerman Ravine about a week ago. Things are filling in but its still a little scrappy with exposed rock and ice falls. First shot is of one of the snow rangers "testing" the snow stability. Rode part of the sluice and chicken rock gully.

Shot of the bowl. The sluice is way lookers right.

Boot Spur. The center gully is Dodges Drop.

The three amigos. Only snow rangers east of the Mississippi. Started at the right most snowfield and then moved left diagonally into chicken rock which is hidden from view.

Tracks. Fun wind slab in chicken rock. It wasn't very reactive and broke CT 21 Q1.

Take 2

See up there.

thanks for post.

East Coast trip reports, pictures, etc. always make me smile and bring back so many killer memories, but the Whites in general and the Presis specifically really hit the spot. I worked for the AMC for three summers in college and my first summer I was Lakes of Clouds...what an amazing place.

Anyway, though I've done tons of hiking and some rock climbing in the Whites, I only did a little ice climbing and some resort riding in NH (all in the late 90s) -I didn't really get into backcountry until we moved back west in 2007...can't wait to explore some of my old favorite spots on my splitty some day.
