a couple of weeks ago, i climbed nimbus peak with scott and leyland.
during a break in the storm we spotted this line in the distance...
scott went in thursday afternoon and broke the approach trail, so it was an "easy" start in the dark on friday.
the first rays of daylight brought the familiar sight of some cool avy chutes.
as we started climbing, i caught my first glimpse of the season of a completely clear sky.
gnar in every direction...
a mere 5 hours of skinning, and it's time to find a way down.
so many choices...
we soon found the destination that scott had in mind
roping up for an empirical stability test.
scott wasn't sure if anyone had ridden this line before, so we let him drop first (and assumed his name for the line, "the shocker").
looking back up at the entrance.
the second half of the line looks as good as the first!
leyland's turn.
the apron was pretty fun, too.
and at last, we rode into the sun!
that was fun.
now we've got to get up that?
several hours later, we were rewarded with another sunny view.
by the time we reached the top of our exit, we were losing daylight fast.
the sunset pow traverse was only the beginning...
there were many great lines below, but scott had a particular one in mind.
leyland exits a chute that rivaled the first for funnest turns of the day.
more days should end like this! (now time to get skinning)
though i've ridden as many vertical feet on other days with a lot less effort, the beautiful weather, ever changing views, perfect snow, good company, top quality lines (and a few homemade "extra dank" chocolate truffles) combined to make this yet another "best day of the season". thanks scott for going out a day early to start the trail to a great line. thanks leyland for getting up at 3am to give a couple knuckledraggers a ride to the mountain; thanks to both of you for the great pictures!

Great write up Ben. A day for my memory banks for sure. so good on so many levels.
Love that shot of you smiling at the bottum. Think I've got my hall of fame photo of you. though I need two, since you will be a recipient of the double stack for your induction into the 2 timers club.
Only other member is Kyle, but soon to be Gary as well.

Nice work! I'm jealous you guys got the high pressure. We had it forecast for here but it looks like it stayed south. Oh well, woke up to another 30cm outside the hut at 4am for the headlamp mission I had planned...

yeah that was the sunniest day that i've been out touring since october (hence all the pictures). breaking trail by headlamp is pretty badass, though! all your stories keep reminding me i need to head up north at some point this winter!
