Disclaimer: No action shots, sorry.

While riding a 40" day at Alyeska I ran into a friend from somewhere north of Anchorage whom I haven't seen in a while. He told me that a couloir near his home has been filling in nicely and I should come check it out. Well, you don't need to prod me too much. I called another joneser friend of mine and we were on our way! We drove hours out of Girdwood to our friends "commune" where we drank and watched a band of hippies play drums and bongos and a sitar, among other things, while a girl flew through the air hanging from curtains or drapes or something from a cirq de sole show. It was... different, very cool, but different to say the least. Then we passed out in a log cabin with no heat.

The next morning we woke to french toast and bacon in the pitch black of night at 8:00am. Then we loaded up our trusty steeds and were on our way.

Well, you know, this is where it gets tuff. We dug a small pit here and the snow looked bomber! But it was accumilating fast, really fast! A 2" slab broke off and covered some of the skin track, no big deal really. But what if that 2" slab broke off at the top of the couloir 1500' above? That's 2" times 1500 or something like that. This is what I was thinking at the time, and that's a lot of snow with nowhere for us to go.
Then some snowballs started rolling down the couloir from out of no where. Just some snowballs. Then a "spindrift" came barreling down the mountain side just behind me. It looked like a waterfall, but pileing up deep at the bottom. Yeh, we turned around. We had beers waiting for us at our sleds.

The couloirs not going anywhere, and I for one would like to live to do it another day!

We spent another night at the commune. This time going to bed by 8:00pm because it feels like freakin' midnight or later because it's been dark since 3! Only to wake up and find out the Alyeska has gotten another 36" overnight! Screw the backcountry, I'm riding the lifts!

Always best to live to ride another day. Still looks like a good time for sure. Hopefully you at least got a few turns in and more :guinness:

The 10" day was better then the 40" day but the 36" day from the storm you boys got caught in was even better, for those of us that stuck it out in town, at the resort that is :disco:.
