Went for my usual trip back home this summer. Only managed a couple of outings. One of them was on the Glacier de La Girose in the Ecrins region of the french alps. I decided to take my 5 yo son and my dad for their first Glacier outing along with Lionel. Given the heat of the summer it was very refreshing.
Negotiating a narrow ledge
Pic de la Grave in the Background
Party of 3 climbing towards the west side of the Rateau
Fresh snowfalls the night before had plastered the north faces
The magic "Cars" juice always helps
Mont Blanc, Dent du Geant & Grandes Jorasses in the background
Some gnarlies lying around
Terrain requiring attention
Party of 4 on a more filled-in section
The easy way down & another use for the survival blanket
I like that picture: A lone hiker in the white immensity with a shadow that looks like the face of a woman (smelling that crevasse?)
A job well done youg man!
Damned I am pooped!
All were pleased, all that remained was to carry my son back to the car

yes that is one thing that is so great to see you guys and gals taking your kids out to share in the joy of the mountians. they dont have to be shredders or chargers, just going out for some fun in the mtns with the family. myself, i know i have some early memories of my experiences with my family in the mtns, i remember being 3 yrs old and skiing with my dad at EC resorts.
you got some good shots in there tooooooo, nice to see snowy mtns or glaciers and those peaks are always inspiring. that shadow shot is pretty interesting. am i correct in saying you were in japan right? you heading back soon? where is base camp for you?

Hey fullers, I hope the little ones remember their first mountain experiences. Those memories must have left quite an impression for you to remember at 3yo! You must be quite the skier now! I was actually wondering the other day whether my boy will remember those trips when he is older. At least I have the pictures for him to look back to a few years from now.
I live and work in Japan, based in Tokyo. I was born and lived all my youth in a small town in the french alps called Briançon. It is in the Ecrins/Cerces region of the french alps surrounded by national parks. It is very close to Italy and peaks such as la Meije, La Barre des Ecrins, Mont Thabor, Mont Viso, etc...The nearest ski resorts are Serre Chevalier, Montgenevre, la Grave and many more a bit further afield. I was basically very very fortunate to be born there and was able to enjoy the outdoors to the fullest thanks to my parents, so I am hoping to do the same for my kids.
Since moving to Japan I have bought a small place in a ski resort a couple of hours from Tokyo and try to go on week-ends when I am not too busy. I have been fortunate to meet like-minded friends along the way and am really enjoying my time in J-Land shredding the insane amounts of pow. So still in Japan for now while I have a job Let's see what the future brings...
Usually I go back home to France on vaca in the summer. This winter though I may have found a victim to tag along back home, maybe do a week in La Grave if I can
