Yes- the east face is a gem! Did you build a partial igloo or tent wall perhaps up on a bench below the N Face of Elephant? Saw the remnants of one up there on Thur.

We built three snow shelters and a wind-block wall below Elephant, yes. Small world.

Crazy wind in the eastern Beartooths over the weekend. The crazy paradox of that place in the midwinter is that I either find bad snow and good weather/snowpack or great snow and awful snowpack/weather. Bailed from the bowl in question when we got a giant collapse down low. Psyched to stick around here this weekend .

Almost felt like a powder day up there today. Pretty good riding at History Rock (all my student self had time for w/ tests coming up). 4-5" by the time we left around 11. Should be nice up in the higher reaches this weekend.

Stellar touring conditions in Hyalite this weekend. People were sure getting after it! Tracks on some of the most obscure stuff I've seen! Probably like 6" of cold smoke well preserved by cool temps made for outstanding riding on all aspects. Couldn't even get a column to break in an upper elevation n facing ECT, and got 70% of the way through a PST before failure. Rode all over S and N aspects. Terrific. Nomad and MJ get some in a gully. Ty shreds a s. facing spine:

Cool Sam- that software looks fun to play around with. You can download it for free no? Nice capture of the air ambulance. High time the Gallatin Valley got one of those. Thanks for the comment on the blog too.

Free download from http://www.snowpilot.org/ Super easy to install and use. I record my notes in the field in my notebook and then enter it into the software when I get home.

Had a 1/2 day at work so headed up for some morning turns to History Rock. The bottom two snowfields were shit, but the top one was untracked, boot-deep sugar. Really fun to cruise down through.

Best skiing of the year in Hyalite currently. the 4-8" of super light new snow, highly stable conditions. Got to tag some fun new lines as well as an old one.
