leaves are changing BIG TIME, but no first snow yet to speak of at elevation. still splitting wood and surfing. shouldn't be long now though...

fyi, the best turns pre-season w/ any significant storm are obviously at the ski areas that do best w/ the most new snow and are still closed. will keep you posted.

WILL BE OVER EASTERN CANADA. THESE SHORTWAVES COMBINED WITH A COLD
POOL OF AIR ALOFT OVER THE REGION WILL LEAD TO INSTABILITY AND A
CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS THURSDAY THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. THERE IS
A CHANCE FOR SOME SNOW SHOWERS LATE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT ACROSS
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE ADIRONDACKS AND THE GREEN MOUNTAINS.

colder today, leaves are now peak and starting to drop fast. around 45 here today in town.

temps on highest peaks are below freezing this am, should see snow accum in the hills after the clouds lift later on. cold rain right now in the valleys.

snowing this am above 1500'. 1-3" possible.

sunny & cool tomorrow.

flakes and 1 cm of accumulation on car & roof at 1100 ft in waterbury center.

heading to stowe at lunch to pickup pass. notch road apparently closed this AM

looks like something good is brewing for tomorrow night, a very low pressure system is coming our way. 2-4 inches is what is currently being predicted for mansfield.

Indeed. I'll be in the mansfield parking lot ~530 ready to hike or split depending on how much we've got by that point.

i may be making my way over to whiteface late tonight as it's looking like the storm will go straight over the adirondacks.

if this storm shifts east or plans change, then i'll be at stowe early in the morning as well.

probably a good idea.

i'm going to save my "sick" days for prime season.

First turns of the season today at Mansfield.

2-3 inches of wet snow at the base, 8-10 inches up at the top of the Gondola. Fluff on top, wet layer underneath

First tracks down Perry Merrill (I think of the season..?), and all the way back to the truck

Last day of 07-08 season was 5/15/08
First Day of 08-09 season is 10/29/08

5 and a half month layoff between turns, not bad for VT!

7IN at the bottom of the mountain at Jay Peak. Should be something like 12-14in up top.... could be more according to what was on the top of Mansfield...

Snow should keep up all evening and hopefully into the morning... Pray for wrap-around snow! If it goes up to 18in, i know i'll ride on saturday... i'd wish i could skip work and ride tomorrow... too busy... we'll go for it once it dumps for real...
