Planning to go backpacking to a location with a few new splitters from NYC. We'd like to set up a base camp and then do some bc touring. my only experience with BC at Jay was hiking along the ridge up to big jay from the resort and then hitching a ride from the highway. I know the VT locals are very protective against people like me (invading their turf), but still I would appreciate any tips/advice.

For instance is early Feb a good time or is it usually too early in the season? Would I be better off in early March? Are there any decent camping areas within proximity to decent lines like Big Jay or Gravity Bowl. Anything else?
