Nice shots UTAH and Mar123!

Hey, for all the folks in and around SLC, come on down to Wasatch Touring tomorrow night (th, 1/23) to hear Jeremy Jensen from Grassroots Powdersurfing up in Logan talk about his thoughts on soul surfing. Should be a good time!

Same format as usual, and get in touch with ?s. Peace!

I decided to get out and play this weekend. Went to Raymond Saturday. It looked like an effing resort. It was hit so hard. Hit the couli straight off of the summit. It was alright and the apron was pretty nice. Mill A was a blast like always. Here is Raymond after we hit it. So many tracks.

Image

We went and hit another couli I had been eying for a couple years. I could not find a name on it after researching it. I think it might have been one of the few things in the snatch that didn't have a track on it. We called it the Belieber Couloir as who doesn't like some Bieber?

Here is Steve working his way down it. Probably the best run of the year for me. I was surprised to find such good quality of snow. Only had to worry about slough at the choke.

Nice work Snovols! Judging from that second pic it looks like the snow is largely facets. Hope it snows again soon

Got out and walked around in BCC yesterday. It was obvious a rain event preceded the new snow - ski penetration was almost as bad as boot penetration on the up (SW thru W to +9K'). While transitioning I punched through the ground
Rode mostly NW-W 30° and turns were good as long as momentum was maintained and no hard cuts made, otherwise it was a submarine wallow session. Overall breaking trail sucked balls, turns were ok to sort of fun (relatively speaking).

sorry to everyone that I bailed on today. thought I was gonna get out for a dawn patrol so I could work on my homework but ended up waking up at 9:30 made a quick dash up to LCC. up binx- down jaws -up two dogs-down somewhere between flagstaff and binx. Temps were cool with some sun, humid, and then heavy snow showers on the way out. was out less than two hours but in the areas traveled turns were nice and snow seemed stable enough. pulled out a small sluff pocket coming down the south facing stuff on steep rollover. tons of tracks and people everywhere. oh and fuck booting in the skin track. also I hit a metric fuckton of rocks coming off of the emma ridge so watch out. :nononno:

I rode east facing Mineral fk yesterday, pre storm. There was 8 to 10 inches on top of the crust. It kinda felt like riding at a resort on a pow day with the bottom being felt on a lot of turns.

Today I rode Bulter/Mill A. Saturdays snow really made a difference! 12-14 inches of extra dry that rode bottomless.

There was a lot of evidence of natural loose snow sloughs. All of the point release variety on very steep terrain, initiating beneath cliffs or rock bands. One party triggered a decent sized slough that broke off of a vertical rock slab.

ALOT of people out today.

Note the sorry looking line to the right of my tracks. That was from yesterday, where I imagine it was rough going bottom feeding on that nasty crust. It amazing was 3-6 inches can do.

Got out Saturday and finally check Little Pine Chute off of the list. Even with the rocks that were hit, it was easily one of the best days I have had. It was blower the whole way down. Hit a few rocks with the new Chimera but they were luckily just cosmetic scratches. There was around 2 feet of light and fluffy on top of a firm melt freeze crust once you got higher in the chute. Visibility wasn't great but here is one photo. Here is SchralphMacchio in the white room though.

Sunday got out and looked into Silver fork and it was tracked out. So we just did laps on the south face of Davenport I believe.

Best touring day of the year for me. Played around in Upper Days, rode out Toledo Bowl. Pretty well bottomless in Days and upper Toledo, lower down on the exit was bouncing off of crust some.

The view was good

So was the riding

Nice shots everyone. Yesterday was well worth the 3:15 wake up.

Switchback, how did seagull look like it was filling in?

The seagull is getting fatter. I took a look from above and the entrance could use a bit more snow. I like my wings to be a bit more plump but there probably enough snow for a more technical rider than I.
