Nice to feel the sun on my face and get some exercise, but that about sums it up.

Storm was a bust on the sunny side - definitely more snow at my house than parts of BCC
Some plow drivers can be real douches - Dude raise yer blade!
Its still really bony on the sunny side NE facing @ 8500'
Image
10" total snow over dirt and rocks, due south facing @ 9000'
Image
Favored areas had up to a couple feet, with zero base not good for much other than trenching

I took a hike up S facing LCC today. Winds must have been swirling yesterday because there patches of scoured wind buff and wind deposits of snow randomly distributed above about 9000 ft. W-S-E. Cornices were forming on the N side of the LCC/BCC divide. Didn't find anything thicker than 4 inches but it was cracking under my skis as I was skinning. It wasn't a concern to me due to the low angle terrain and thinness of the slabs but it could be a problem in steeper, more loaded terrain. Needless to say breaking trail was brutal. Riding conditions were not. 18 to 24 inches of dense powder (from the last 2 storms) kept me on top of the sharks. When the wind stopped and the sun came out it wasn't too bad out there.

Also, it looked like most of the storm snow on the steeper slopes of Cardiff slid naturally last night. Sorry no pics due to shitty visibility.

^^nice photos, like the black and white tracks Switchback

Got a late start, was planning on hitting Flagstaff area but the visibility up there looked bad so headed back down to White Pine

Red Baldy Ripped huge! wall to wall
Image
skinned up the debris pile and found some decent snow to make some turns
Image
another shot on the way out...observed some shooting cracks on the skin up
Image
sticky snow on the exit, or maybe need more wax
Image

laters,

Went up mill d north on Saturday morning. Planned on the north side of Reynolds or Toms hill. The east side of Tim's hip was really brushy, so we threw that aspect out. South side of little water peak was the same. Decided to head up the north side of Toms hill; apparently it has been the place to be as it had lots of tracks. Still had good fresh turns just off the main fall line on the upper half. Good powder, no slab. Made two laps and headed down for a lunch burrito.

Wen back up around 215 to bear trap to skin up bear trap glades and maybe drop into the willow side if conditions permitted. Time wasn't going to allow it, so we hit beartrap west( just across from the glades, east facing). Low angle, mostly around 20-25 degrees, brushy up top and could feel the grass under the board the whole way but still fun as its an open slope. Logs and stumps on the edges of the exit but not many rocks poking up on the track itself.

Went to the guardsmanspass pass area Sunday morning for some search and rescue training; the car said -2, and there was a consistent light wind for the day. Good amount of snowmobiles. The top 1cm of the snow was a little slabby as small "panes" would break out when probing with the poles. A nice sundog was out in the sky for the day, and my nice puffy kept me warm when standing around; toes were almost always cold.

Winds are having their way with our precious fluffy snow...probably gusting up to 40 along the ridges, SW/W winds, swirling winds lower in the drainage
Image
At times the winds would settle down and standing on the ridges was actually quite pleasant...warmer today, could actually changeover without freezing. Variable snow off the ridges but still plenty of fluff in the right spots. Some sizeable cornices forming too.
Image
Found plenty of good snow but may have to be a bit more selective with aspects due to the winds...(^v Bucky making some turns)
Image
A look into upper Cardiff
Image

take care!

nice pics Dave! Assuming I don't OD on adderall this week, I'm done with finals on friday and looking to get out sunday (gotta work a double on saturday). Looking to do a leisurely big day if anyone wants to join.

Dan, where are you thinking? I am interested in a big day as long as I have burritos and whiskey.

Just seeing if anyone has interest in heading down to Cedar Breaks Saturday early morning? SNOTEL I found has 34" of snow on the ground. Could be fun to poke around down there?
