Not quite sure when yet, but the forecasts are finally looking better. Chance of precit late this week or this weekend, with heavy chances early next week. Very cold with snow levles 'round 2000-2500....

Question is, if this comes in as cold as planned, and as gradual as planned, are we going to be looking at significant weak points in the snowpack due to the difficulty in bonding to the hard freeze showing up first thing in the morning on most aspects? Supposed to be a bit of wind early on which will only make things worse due to difficulty in bonding to the old snow. Probably be a bit sketchy for a little longer than usual after the first few snows.... Just mumbling aloud... Guess have to wait and see since this is still a week away at best guess...

Anyway, can't wait for Winter Part 2 to start.... Crossing my fingers...

As of 11pm there's about 4" - 6" on tahoe's west shore measured in the Sunnyside parking lot. 3" - 4" in my driveway in Incline. Still coming down hard with no wind, nice light snow.

3-4 feet of bottomless 5% pow on Saturday around Donner Summit. Deepest snow I've ever toured in.

Pretty stable snowpack too. A large cornice chunk naturally dropped in Judah's east bowl and didn't run far or release anything at all.

Snow was great this morning in the Mt.Rose area. Be aware that there are some wind slabs forming. DFinn and I were surprised to find winds out of the N/NW loading crusty S/SE faces.

On a N/NE chute we had some wind slab formation at the top, as well as some sluff. We descended safely, and the snow was great.

On a SE face there was wind slabs on top of icey crust. On the ridge above it we experienced shooting cracks, 20' X 20' slab displacement, a whumpf or two, and a dog caused a small cornice to fall which displaced a small slab below it. We backtracked and did not descend that face. Chose a relatively unloaded SW treed area instead. Again really nice snow.

This was in the Mt.Rose area all above 8k'.
