Am i to understand that the new "voile ready" burton splitters do not have inserts and you actually have to DRILL through and mount!?

Both Winterstick and Burton are offering splitboards this season COMPLETELY inserted for Voile hardware. Both manufacturer's boards will arrive in shops with the Voile tip/tail clips, and chinese hooks installed. The end user will then need to purchase the Voile Universal Binding Interface. This kit contains all the additional hardware to get these boards completed. I'm certain that some of the board shops will be mounting this hardware, and then displaying the boards complete, while other shops will be leaving the boards as is.

yeah the pix on the burton site are even weaker than the one above...most of the info seems like recycled content from previous years. how the might have fallen.

There are burton splitboards for sale in the Mountain Gear catalog, but they say the sizes are 165 and 170 and the top sheet is from last year (see affix snow's pic). They do say that they are using Voile hardware though so they got something right.

Sadly, the writing on the wall is fairly obvious.

I made my LAST burton purchase in april. My 165 split. Review: 4 times into the backcountry, two repairs , two items lots due to loose screws. If I sold you something this shitty I would drive to your house, return your money, may even take you out for a good meal and a strip bar because I would be embarassed of my product. Not Burton. They keep on putting out shit and calling it great. Burton products belong in town or on the bus. Not in the backcountry

Yeah - maybe it'll piss off any S-Series fans out there, but I think the splitboard market is too niche for a big player like Burton to pay much attention to. You're probably better off going with Voile, NS, Prior, or anyone else who wants to be in the niche badly enough to do a good job and push the design envelope. I doubt the S-Series will evolve much, while Prior has 14 different split models and Voile has, I think 8.

Not that I'm a Burton hater - I love my Custom at the resort. I just don't know why they're even in the split market.
