by now a lot of people may have heard ... and I think this is of general interest to this site.

Shane McConkey passed away in Italy early today as the result of a ski basing accident.

It's sad sad horrible news. Shane, say hi to Craig, you guys were f***ing pioneers and changed both of your sports and listened to your hearts.

Rest in peace.

 Shane was the man. Super stoked to be skiing and shared that with everyone. His vision of heliskiing on water skis has changed skiing, and now snowboarding, too. Another legend will be missed. RIP Shane :headbang:

Of course it's of general interest to this site. Be it one plank or two, we are basically doing the same thing. Shane was a monster, he stomped the planet while we watched in awe. He will be sorely missed.

RIP Shane.

Thoughts and prayers to his family for sure. Used to see Mr. McConkey throwing backflips in the park at Squaw on a monoski. Dude was not afraid to make a mockery of the silly bro-brah culture out there. We lost one of the good ones, rest in peace brother...

Man that's sad. I've been watching him rip in movies forever.

Real pioneer to everything extreme on skis and in the air with the squirrel suit and base jumping. You wonder if it's any consolation knowing that he died doing something he loved or not? Either way, still sucks he's gone. :(

There is a good donation going on over at TGR. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/show ... p?t=155679

All proceeds go to Shane's family.

Hey this is Tom Burt.

Shane was a great egg. His Wife and kid are awesome and good friends of mine. My heart bleeds for them. We did a fund raiser for the two here in Haines last Night The total is at least $4000 from the bar. We will miss one but he will live through his family.

Take care

That's a total tragedy... It's always the worst when it's mentor of a sport that passes.

Shane, and Craig are rippin the gnar in the afterdays. Imagine the powder slashes you can do up there w/ no gravity.

Rest in peace Shane... RetallackA will miss ya killin it's pillows.
