..and upon further review I can see the backs of the Drivers starting to kink just above the heel.

Well that sucks, but thanks for the info. Can you actually feel a pressure point from that kink? I wonder how much different the SI's are from the regular model in terms of flex etc.

The Driver Si's I own are 2001's, last fall I bought a pair of 2004 regular Drivers but never rode in them. The newer models seemed stiffer than my older Si's even accounting for age.
i don't remeber feeling the kink in my achilles but it is not very pronounced yet.
