Why decide? Do both! Sonora Memorial weekend, and Saddlebag the next. :D

"FORECAST MODELS CONSISTANT IN BRINGING AN ABRUPT END TO OUR CURRENT HEAT WAVE AS SPRING STORM HEADS INTO THE HIGH COUNTRY THIS WEEKEND......SOME SNOW POSSIBLE ABOVE 8000 SUNDAY NIGHT AND FREEZE POSSIBLE IN THE HIGH COUNTRY EARLY NEXT WEEK"
AS OF 7:30AM FRIDAY....

MODELS ARE NOW BECOMING MORE REAL, WITH WHAT THIS SYSTEM HAS TO DEAL WITH AS IT COMES INTO CALIFORNIA. REMEMBER WE HAVE HAD RECORD HEAT. DIABATIC HEATING WILL TAKE ITS TOLL ON THIS UPCOMING STORM AND WEAKEN IT CONSIDERABLY AND POSSIBLY CAUSING IT TO SPLIT SUNDAY NIGHT. THE ENERGY IS GOING SOMEWHERE....IT LOOKS LIKE A GOOD PORTION OF IT MAY SPLIT AROUND US AND TO OUR SOUTH. NEVERTHELESS, SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING AND AGAIN SUNDAY/NIGHT AND INTO MONDAY AM. SOME SNOW WILL FALL OVER MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN. THERE WILL BE WINDY PERIODS AND TEMPS WILL LOWER SOME 20+ DEGREES OVER THE NEXT 3 DAYS.

SNOW LEVELS TONIGHT ARE PRETTY MEANINGLESS...EVEN FOR THE CREST UNTIL THE COLD CORE GETS CLOSER TO US THE END OF THE WEEK. SO JUST RAIN SHOWERS. THEN SUNDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT THE ACTION PICKS UP. THE WEST SIDE OF THE CREST MAY STILL GET UP TO AN INCH OF WATER....RFC DERIVED QPF DATA SHOWING ABOUT AN INCH IN THE YOSEMITE AREA BETWEEN SUNDAY AM AND MONDAY AM. AND SO 3/4 TO INCH IS POSSIBLE FROM THE CREST > WEST. EAST OF THE CREST IT WILL PROBABLY FALL OFF QUICKLY AS THE SYSTEM IS SPLITTING...AND SO 1/4 TO 1/2 HALF AN INCH FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH IS MY BEST GUESS. THE UPPER MOUNTAIN/SIERRA CREST MAY GET 3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW....SUNDAY NIGHT. WILL KEEP MONITORING THIS STORM, AS AGAIN IT IS IN A SPLITTING PROCESS AFTER SUNDAY AFTERNOON. ENERGY WELL COME IN IN PIECES. THIS STORM PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ONE FOR MAMMOTH WITH A FOOT OR TWO ((IF)) THE DESERTS "WERE" MUCH COOLER.....THEY ARE NOT!

Tioga Pass for Memorial Day? It is a ritual...

Evolutions were nice last weekend. Darwin TR forthcoming.

Ellery Bowl and Dana Couloir would be some nice spring skiing after this forecast storm, for sure.
