Just wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming 2006 Mount Shasta Split Board Camps being offered through Shasta Guides this spring.

They're offering two splitboard specific camps this year, a beginners camp and an advanced camp. They've also provided a rough curriculum below.

Head Instructor:
Robert C. Smith

-Robert Smith has been snowboarding for 16 years and has a great deal of international snowboard mountaineering experience in places such as: North America- including Denali and Valdez, Chile, Argentina, Peru, France, Italy and Switzerland.

-Robert Smith is currently undergoing the process of becoming the first internationally certified UIAGM guide on a snowboard.

-Let Robert share his knowledge and experience with you this spring through a Mount Shasta Split Snowboard Camp.

Beginners Camp - May 13th and 14th

1. Course participants will receive instruction in the anatomy of the split board, and how it differs in performance from a traditional snowboard.

2. Course participants will learn different techniques for skinning in various types of terrain and snow conditions.

3. Course participants will learn about different techniques for descending on a split board in many different types of terrain in all types of snow conditions.

4. Course participants will receive an introduction to backcountry travel that will cover safe travel techniques in backcountry terrain as well as an introduction to avalanche awareness and avalanche rescue.

Tentative Itinerary for Beginners Camp:

Beginning courses will all meet at the Bunny Flat trailhead. Day tours will then take us to various parts of Mount Shasta depending on weather and snow conditions.

Advanced Camp - June 10th, 11th and 12th:

1. Course participants will receive instruction in the anatomy of the split board, and how it differs in performance from a traditional snowboard.

2. Course participants will learn different skinning techniques for various types of terrain and snow conditions.

3. Course participants will learn about different techniques for descending on a split board in many different types of terrain in all types of snow conditions.

4. Course participants will receive an introduction to snowboard mountaineering. Participants will receive a “snow school,â€Â

Good to see somebody finally doing this. Props to Chris at SMG and his crew for making it happen.

BCR I think your info email is incorrect (missing an "a" between the "t" and "g").

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or make a new 1.

Exum in Jackson hole is also doing a mountaineering & extreme skiing/boarding camp June 14th-18th. This is a WOMENS SPECIFIC camp. Anna Keeling is the lead guide/instructor for this & its 2 days mountaineering/extreme intstuction off the tram at Jackson Hole & then 2 nights/3 days out in the backcountry around Mt. Moran, Mid. Teton, or whichever place holds the best opportunities at that time.

So far my 18 year old daughter is the only person signed up & comitted. They are still taking sign-ups. They will maintain a 3-1 participant-guide ratio regardless of how many sign up. Some of Exum's guides are some of the most reknowned mountaineers in the world today. This is for pretty advanced riders & splitboarders are welcome.

Hey all, I just wanted to check in and say howdy from Mount Shasta. We are really excited about our first annual split board camp. I believe Shasta to be a great peak to climb, ride and explore on a board (or skis...)

Conditions this season have been incredible, we had 2 feet of new snow last week that smoothed and buffed everything out, riding has been stellar!

Thanks to BCrider and Rob Smith for making this happen. We have a couple spaces left, come on up and check out the power and beauty that is Shasta.

Peace. -SMG
