Any of you Canucks out there have the goods on the avy conditions up there? The CAC website is making things look exceptionally bad, but I suspect that some micro zones might not be as dangerous. Looking to possibly head up there for a week or so starting March 10th, and I don't want to see any of this:
Yeah there is lots of snow right now and might be more snow to come (which should be followed by increasing wind). This would send most of Western Canada full on into a big avalanche cycle (the cycle might be just starting). As you probably have read, the Feb 20 layer hasn't settled out yet. Also, the deep instabilities are for real. Smaller avalanches have a chance stepping down to become giants. We have seen known avalanche run outs overcome, taking out mature timbers.
There are still safe places to ride, but it's best to be conservative. Treed runs without looming snow above are out there. All this snow and warmth should help with the Feb 20th layer, but it needs time. Hopefully things have settled down by the time you get here. You'll have to wait and see.
