I'm heading out tommorow to hit up Red mountain and Whitewater. Anyone been there that has any advice on must do's for the riding or whatever. I also heard that whitewater has one-up tickets for cheap. Plan on bringing the split and my spare one for my buddy so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the terrain, touring etc.. Any info helps. Thanks

Red Mountain is my absolute favorite, you might not even need your split if the snow is good. The backside trees are perpect. If you want to tour I think you can tour up Grey Mountain or maybe its called granite, I forget.
Red Mountain is a awesome hill.

Whitewater is known for its touring, but it can get scetchy, a good friend got caught in a nasty avy last year, so play safe. The town of Nelson is one of the coolest towns around. Go to Ogro Negro(sp) for great coffee.

I grew up riding at Baker in the late 80's early 90's. Red Mtn is more low key than I remember Baker being. It is so far from a wanna-be mega resort it is not even funny. The riding there is spectacular and steep. Since there is no alpine terrain on the Mtn it will feel small - especially if there is a fog layer like there was when I was there. Don't be fooled by that feeling though. Oh yeah, I was there on a midweek. It hadn't snowed in well over a week and I was able to find freshiez - on the Mtn not in the bc.

I don't know it may just be me. I like going to Whistler/Blackcomb now and again but would rather make the extra couple hour drive and go to Red Mtn.

Up at Whitewater you can get info on White Queen, 5 Mile and the "backsides" that are always a blast.

Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant 198 Baker St. The best Mexican food outside of my wife's kitchen and she's from SanDiego. I had them add a Mole/chicken dish a couple of years ago. Awesome

Keep an eye out for a tele skier by the name of Marc luc...he knows all!!

Simply the most excellent resort on the planet

beats Chamonix, La Grave, St Anton, Whistler plus most of rest of Canada and any where else we have ever ridden or skied includding lots of US resorts - come from UK so we travel - nearly as good as Heli and cat skiing - get more vertical metres in a dya but not quite as clean lines until you go down to the access road .

the food is awesome the people friendly and the snow is just wicked - on all other websites would not say anything as what makes it special is that no one goes there = but if you are prepared to sweat up hill you need to know that there really is no need!!

Red mountain did not suck. I don't know what it looks like but the new snow plus steep trees made for a great day. Ditto for whitewater except we got a few glimpses of the touring potential. I'll definitely be back up there again to hit the backcountry.

I go past a lot of places to get to Nelson....never been disapointed.
