Hi

Glad i found this site it's brilliant.

I live in Tignes, France and for the backcountry couloirs.

But stomping and snowshoeing knacker me and I'm about to do the Alp's Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt. So I need a splitbboard.

I want the Voile 171 Mountain Gun, but can't find one for sale anywhere in the World.

How can I get one? Or would the 161 surffice? I'm 170 pounds and ride a Nidecker Megalight 164 & a Never Summer Premier 165.

As for the Mtn Gun. You'd probably be better off on the 171cm over 161cm.

Hi! Did the Haute Route once. Brilliant! But even though I'm fond of splitboarding I would choose skis on this one. I was telemarking, but light AT could be better. Reason: Steep uphills, where canting a wide board is hard. And flat stretches, lots of traversing and so on. If touring with skiers I would not keep up with them.
-But of course, it's doable, I just dont think the downhill fun are worth the extra effort, the trip is kind of strenous anyway.

i've also been on the haute route several times, i've never been able to complete it end to end because of weather/conditions... last year i was very close to trying it on a splitboard. in the end i used tele skis with touring adapters. the only section that i remember that would not be to fun on a board is the end of the last descent into zermatt. once your off the glacier it's very bony (lots of rocks) picking through them on the flat-ish slope was a pain with skis i would have walked with a snowboard. of course a lot depends on how much snow there is at the lower elevation when you do it. there used to be a web site trip report from a group of german snowboards who did with snowshoes/boards.

Guess it depends how passionate you are. I choose light skis when going on a long trip with friends at skis. We continued from Zermatt to Monte Rosa and then Sas Fee, a total of ten days. Most people get tired during some of those days, so ski would be my choise. But in the downhill snowboard is much more fun, and after mounting dynafit front bindings walking has improved to!
