all right the deal is done, split my libtech rock deck for BC use this year. What is the best way to seal the inner/exposed edge w/ the core. the volie indications suggest varithane or enamel paint. I am just curious if there is a better product for this task....epoxi, co-polimer, etc? I have already assembled the hardware which my prove problematic as i cant increase the material inbetween each half so much that everything dosent clip together right. I was choiceless in the procedure as i only had access to the shop i used for a few hrs.

youse epoxi with long open time - grind the wood with 60er sandpapper.
lay in the epoxi glass roving .

I've been using varethane on mine, but may consider using some sort of epoxy on the one I'm doing up now. Mine have been just fine though, so as long as you do something you'll be ok. There are a few of us up here near Baker, so finding partners should be no problem.

Well, you an I, and whoever we get to join up on the site will make a "few". I did see a couple of "unknown" to me splitters on the Sunday I hiked Baker, so there is hope.

Would like to get out on the hill soon, however, gonna be snowcamping and riding at rainer this weekend, then thanksgiving weekend throws a kink in things, but after that Im down

As Burton said, if you use epoxy, use the slowest curing/hardening/setting epoxy you can find. These, after drying, will stay a bit softer, retaining their flexibility unlike the quickdry ones. Good two part epoxies are rated anywhere from a couple minutes to 24 hours... Anything in the "hours" rather than "minutes" is a good bet. I've done this for various sidewall and other repairs on my resort boards with good success...

Hmmm... yah, missed that part... Looks to be a type of fiberglass type reinforcment.

Burton, do you have any links to suppliers for this stuff? I'm sure some simple biax glass cloth cut in a strip would work, but would be interested in other options... Haven't played much with that kinda stuff, yet...
