i just got turned on to this

(google earth) has FREE 3d images and maps of everywhere

what you can do,see, and manipulate is absolutely amazing

you can stand at the base of your favorite mountain and look up
you can stand at the top of you favorite line and look down
you can fly like a bird and get the lay of the land

Topos can be a bit confusing until you know the area
Now I can cyber hike the hills,
terrain that has taken me years to figure out ....
....winter descents............summer recon hiking trips
its all just laid out for everyone to see

P.s. I just downloaded the free version
I would like to hear any feedback concerning the added value and atributes of the subscription service
