Some of the awesomest lines are the toughest ones to hike to.

North side of Shastina:

Where the heck is Dave? I miss him and the mega-epic adventures he told us about and/or joined him on.

There have been some epic schwaks this season for sure. High snow levels, tons of vegetation at the access points. Mike calls it the persistent manzanita layer.

Nice blast from the past, Buffy! That was my first Eastside splitboot trip. Good times!

North side of Shastina, mmmmmm. Hard to get to though.

The forest around the Oregon volcanoes are generally pretty easy to travel through. Here is one from a climb of the north side of McLoughlin though. Pretty hard to get to (or out from), though I have a new route planned for my next attempt. It was worth it, though I am not sure ShredOR thought so.

Same manzanita and shrubs as on the north side of Shastina. On this day we woke up to low clouds and drizzle before it cleared which left all the shrubs dripping wet. We were soaked at this point.
