Well, the number of companies that claim to have the "lightest" splitboard is increasing... ;)

Anyway: good to see, that they are working on decreasing the boards' weight!

I can count at least 3 manufacturers claiming to have the lightest board, and many more saying that "probably" or "one of the lightest"... who is right?
the numbers are out there

I'll be quite satisfied when I get an ultra tough board down in the low 3kg range, thats my short term goal as I refine my board designs and construction options, but its got to be tough as nails or its not for sale! Not sending my customers back country with an eggshell.....

I'm more interested in the most durable as a splitboard is useless when it breaks in half in the middle of nowhere because they shaved off a few ounces.

Funny that the ad on top is for the new Jones board as I read the thread.

.

With the core we have come up with its seams stronger and is 300 grams lighter than the old ones!

Pressing the splits in 2 weeks after we've made some more.

Beating 2300grams will be hard!

Then just get a Venture. Superdurable, but heavy.

+1 for durability > weight. Seems most of the weight weenies are the guys that never leave the ground and day tour with huge overstuffed packs. Same thing with mountain biking, the finesse guys go super light, but the guys that charge it need something beefier. Yeah, no one wants to carry too much weight, but blowing an edge or snapping a deck in half sucks. That being said, I have not seen these boards first hand, so if they are that light and still bomber construction, then that is worth checking out.

Haha yeah 2300g is throwing down the gauntlet, interesting as a benchmark and they do point out it is experimental development type of mindset. I have got plans for a lightweight core that's super tough but that's for later this summer when I have time. One of the big opportunities I see with managing board weight is ensuring control over the resin/glass ratio, getting optimum strength with lowest resin content - there is a sweet spot. I'll be focusing on this and the core materials to get my board weights down to the 3KG range which is about as good as I think I'll get in a true back country board that will take walk through creek crossings and skinning and bashing over moraine!
