Sale on Whippets at the BD site. Get 'em for $60. Search this forum for tips on converting them to 3-section and cutting down the top piece. I assume they're making room for the new 3-piece carbon design.

...not sure if it was covered, but I noticed the 12/13 flicklocks have a rivet running into the pole and a section of pole cut out to expand/contract where the flicklock is installed, so if you're modding to a 3 piece, they don't look as easy to pull off and throw on to the cut top section as the old style flicklock. Has anyone pulled one off?

Well that sucks (or might suck). What pole is that from? I just checked a pair of BD Expeditions I just picked up and they don't have the rivet. Got them from Sierra Trading Post though, so they might be last years model...

The picture is of the '12 - 13 whippet, same as BD has on sale. The '12-13 expeditions also have the updated 'flicklock pro' system - you must have picked up the '11-12 expeditions.

I wouldn't try it. On the inside bottom of earlier-model, plastic, flicklocks is a tiny lip keeping the larger diameter pole from sliding out the bottom of the mechanism. This allowed us to pop it off and place it back on. The rivet in the newer models looks like the only thing to prevent the mechanism from sliding at all. Now, I only have pop rivets and those leave too much material to allow the smaller diameter pole to be inserted into the larger. Unless you have a real rivet gun which makes the back flush with the inside of the mechanism, I would't go there.
You can however still do the 3-piece mod (by ordering either trail mids and lowers or CF mids and lowers) allowing it to collapse to around 29" (which is good enough for my pack).
