Looking at a trip next winter to Japan for some splitting and regular old riding. Has anyone been that can point me in the right direction. Looking at riding resorts and some backcountry tours. Any resorts that we shouldnt miss or guide company to use that are better than others? Any info will be helpful in planning. Thanks

Most "guides" in japan are just guys with no more than ast level 1 training who simply know the area cause they have been there before and love taking your money. I just did a 6 week hokkaido tour so I can tell you a lot about that. You need to decide if you want hokkaido or honshu and start from there.

Most folks seem to head to Hokaido. They get more snowfall there and that's where all the movie clips are from. But, there's a lot of "mini golf" runs there. I would recommend the Powder Guide Company out of Niseko if you head there. Personally, I would head to Hakuba on Honshu if I were to go to Japan. Much much bigger steeper mountains! The Alps of Japan as they are known. Also, Nozawa Onsen is not to be missed!
