I'd only do it if your current board does not have a tight fit. My thought is that the Voile hooks are better if they are tight and you have a quality board and both halves match up really well. For my DIY, I like the Karakoram clips and you can always find little ways to tighten them up.
I'm sure you are about to start a good discussion between these two designs and I'm curious to hear what other people think. Brian (AKA Monk) your thoughts?

I generally agree with Keffler. If your board is gappy or has issues, cranking the two halves together with the K clips can be a good thing. It can also lead to issues like hulling (if the inner sidewalls aren't perfectly perpendicular to the base) and they don't work with cap design boards like the pre-'13 Voiles. If you board halves fit together nicely and there is no movement with Chinese hooks, the K Clips would probably not do much for you.

I took mine off my Venture, because I actually had more rigidity with the chinese hooks and spark system. And I generally think it is easier to put together with Chinese and and they are a little lighter.
One thing that annoyed me with the clips is that they can get in the way when skinning. A dab of superglue helped though. Agreed with above thoughts on if any slop with a board, the K clips will help pull together. But you don't get that with a Venture

i wait so long for this quastion..... last summer i make a simpel test.
3 exact the same split board s with 3 diferent split hooks, A: i testet how much power the systems can hould at pull , and B how much presure can hold the systems from the base ( open like a book, pull outsind of the boards..... )

what you think - how wos the wimmer ?????
Burton
I'd guess that the Burton system was the stiffest (more contact points and more material extended to the other side), then the Voile hooks, then the K-clips.
Barrows was just talking to me about trying to devise a simple test that you could put numbers too so the systems could be compared in a more "technical" sense.
My freebird had a lot of slop in the seam, so I bought some clips and now it rides great!...but If you already have hooks that fit tight I wouldn't spend the $$

I got my venture with k clips and after my last tour I noticed both of the clip sides were bent causing the two sides to not sit flush creating another edge in the center of my board. I contacted karakoram and they are going to replace my clips. I can see this happening again though as there is a weakness where the sheet is bent to accommodate the hinge for the latch.
The chinese hooks seem to have more meat to them, and seem less likely to bend IMO...and are lighter. We'll see what happens with the replacements.
