We had a weekend fixed to go trad. climbing in the Peak District or the Lake District in the north of England, but a last minute change of plan saw us load up the car and head to France.
A drive, a ride in the car on a train in an under-sea tunnel and another drive took us to Fontainebleau, a huge expanse of sandstone boulders in the forest, one of the world's most historical and iconic bouldering areas.
It was hot, humid and great fun. We spent 3 days sweating and pulling faces on the easier circuits, lolling about and enjoying the meat, the cheese and the wine. Didn't even scratch the surface, we'll definitely be back.
