With the majority of the consensus in favor of Interior British Columbia for backcountry (Whistler to Revelstoke) in the SB thread What's north america's best BC region? see: http://splitboard.com/talk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15770

How does Japan's Hokkaido compare with B.C. for powder and backcountry lines.

Both are on my bucket-list. If so, when (what month?) and where would you go? Where would you stay (accommodations) or set up base camp???

I did the Japan thing 2 seasons ago, but only did a couple days of touring, mostly because it was storming the entire time and there was tons of pow to be had at the resorts. I based out of Niseko while in Hokkaido. Many people use these guys out there. http://www.bdlodge.com/ They have lodging, guides if needed, shuttles and you can even rent a car from them. I would say January-early Feb is the best time to go. The mtns were different and fun in their own way, but the powder seems very consistent in Hokkaido.

Anyway both places are awesome, I had some great riding in BC Revelstoke area as well few years back and would love to go back to both at some point in my life. Japan and BC are my top 2 places I've had the opportunity to travel and ride.

Best of luck

here is some vid from my Japan trip. Nothing gnar, just some deep tree skiing really.

BC/Rev pov here, but pretty boring to watch other peoples pov footage I know.

If you want big mountain terrain in japan hokkaido is not the place. You wanna be heading to Hakuba for that. Everyones favourite JJ went there for further and there is endless stuff around there.

Or check out Tanigawadake Tenjindaira in Gunma, also on the main island.

Agreed. Hakuba is the place. I've had the pleasure of going to hokkaido as well and for ease of access/variety of terrain the hakuba area - hell the Japanese alps in general are where you want to be.
You will still get the epic snow but with less storm days and its easier to get around the area to hunt out new terrain and snow.
