This is a great way to approach the north side. I highly recommend it if you got a vehicle that's appropriate. This is the route I took on the way out. Much easier to follow than driving in on 42N18.
Very simple on the return from the upper mountain. Just stay between the two very obvious drainages/creeks on your way down. Might want to visit Coquette Falls.
Take a right at this sign. This is where road 42N34 takes off to the right.

Was up there the past two days. Met a friend from Tahoe in town, just outside the 5th Season. Roger and his buddy Seth. They had just come down from the Diller TH to fix a leaking tire. I suggested that we head to the north side. We could all hop in my Jeep to get up to the 'other' north side TH. Where I was a couple weeks ago. 3 miles in on Military Pass Rd., his rear differential blows up. So we camp out down at 5000'. We were planning on skiing the next day (yesterday) and dealing with the vehicle afterwards.
But after waking up, Roger decides he needs to deal with the vehicle situation.
7 hours later, we finally get a driver willing to pick up the vehicle on the dirt road. Don't use Bills towing - he won't drive on the dirt roads to retrieve your vehicle. Fred from Yreka was willing, but not very happy. He said he almost turned around. Were were at 42N18 - only 2.7 miles from the 97. If your vehicle breaks down way in there, YOU ARE SCREWED!!!
We left the vehicle @ J&B's in Weed and I drove them down to Sacramento, where Seth's girlfriend picked them up to take them back to Tahoe. I drove back to Napa Valley. Got home by 9:30pm.
