Shasta tends to be a shit show all the time, that is for climbing but not so much for riding. Car camping away from the trailheads is a nice idea so we do get the creature comforts like a somewhat warm bed, light packs, good food and beer! I agree with not going surrounding holiday weekends for the extra crowd factor and traffic. Lets hope the weather cooperates...

Dude it's a 14er, just climb the top 2-3k twice if you have too and give us the beta after the first descent
In fairness I am sure I would need them, but I just have to buy more stuff. Can I play the southern card for asking that question? What was I thinking?
LOL! I didn't mean that in regards to crampons Ice Axe, but yeah, you'll need them, I just meant you could climb it twice rather then go running before hand
I DO have an extra ice ax btw, but not crampons. 5th Season in Mt. Shasta rents both by the day too, so that's an option.
Last time I was in there they wouldn't rent me crampons because I had said I would be using them with snowboard boots. I thought that was pretty ridiculous. But maybe they just didn't like my roll.

I wont be able to do the weekend of June 23rd. I can do any other weekend, just not that one. We will keep an eye on the road conditions as we get closer. I email Robin ( telewoman on ttips .com) and She says the snowpack on the east side is about normal so look for meltout late june-early july
