Pardon the duplicate posting, but I wanted to get the word out and not sure how many people look in the events folder. I will maintain current info over there in both threads if needed.

I'll be in Chile for a couple of weeks in August. Never brought my split down there before but there are a lot of areas that would be great for touring. The areas that might work best are: Farellones - right by 3 big resorts and Santiago, good back/slackcountry off the resorts, but not a lot of true touring options unless you go up the lifts and tour for a while (all that terrain is pretty serious-looking). Chillan - Good tree runs, sheltered/treed valley to camp in, big resort with touring options even within the boundary and lots from the valley too. Pucon - really far from the "big" city but lots of super mellow-ish terrain and a stable maritime snowpack. Lots of similar resorts between Chillan and Osorno (every resort is on a Volcano). Areas like Corralco have cool tree-runs I hear. Bariloche - big resort, big resort town, fine Argentine women. Not familiar with the backcountry there but I hear it's pretty good.
