We are building a split right now for a 12 year old (13 in March) named Brice! Brice and his father are sick of their season finishing when the chair lifts stop, and want to stretch it as long as they can, hiking for spring and summer turns. They plan to study backcountry safety and finish getting their safety gear this spring!
This made us think, are there many young splitboarders out there? Do you know of any? How old are they? Any in Washington State?
We are curious if Brice might be one of the youngest splitboarders...
My son started going backcountry with us when he was 11 on snowshoes and he started splitting when he was 13 (now 18) in Wa. Started by taking him to Alpental and Crystal in the spring to get him used to skinning since he had never skied. Good luck.
One of my friends recently asked me to be on the lookout for a board to split for his 8 year old nephew. He's not splitting yet but I'm sure it won't be too long before he is.
FWIW, I started hiking at Baker just after I turned 10 in October, 1990.
