I'm sure that you all are getting psyched with the much anticipated snowfall that's hitting the Tahoe region right now. As I type, an anticipated 2 feet is supposed to accumulate up high by Tuesday. The BC should be shaping up nicely by mid-week. If you're in need of any gear and are in the North Tahoe area, do yourself a favor and check out The Back Country in Truckee. They've got a great selection of splits from Jones, Prior, Atomic, and Voile, in addition to skins, hardware, bindings, and everything else under the sun. Just picked up a Jones Solution and Mountain Twin that I've been dying to get my hands on. Their website is http://www.thebackcountry.net, not to be confused with the big-box rival, http://www.backcountry.com.
While it's tough to shop locally these days with the bargain basement pricing of on-line merchants, you'll be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable staff with regards to gear, terrain, conditions, or anything backcountry-related. They do have pretty competitive prices and can enter you in Mike's Club when you spend $500. Mike's Club entitles you to 10% off all ski gear, including decks, bindings, skins, beacons, and the like. Greg in the tech shop does a KILLER job at tuning anything you can throw at him, too. PLUS, he even splits decks if you've got something in your quiver that you'd like converted to a BC schralp- machine.
Get ready for the season to finally get turned on and enjoy out there.
I totally agree with your recommendation--they are great guys and it is great to support them. I picked up a Jones Hoovercraft last weekend---and a buddy bought a new pair of the Sparks DeeLux boots (they just got a new shipment). Good stuff!!

I try and support them when I can as well (I bought my BD poles there). But I'm poor and generally find myself on the used/bargain market. Still I have richer friends who come in from out of town to ski and generally need a few last minute things. I always take them there .

Agree with everyone's sentiment...the Backcountry is a great asset to Truckee/Tahoe and I try to support local shops as much as I can, though it's hard for me to pass up a deal...in light of Marmot closing in Berkley, it makes you re-think on-line shopping (though I must admit that that is where I do the majority of mine...).
I also find that Alpenglow, in Tahoe City, carries great stuff and Brendan, Jeff and the rest of the crew there are super knowledgable about all things backcountry. They have a great ski/board tech too, ski the bc everday before work and even started carrying split-stuff this winter. Next winter they will have a bigger split selection.
Anyway, both shops are worth supporting -- I love being able to check stuff out in person before buying.

Wow, just noticed this. nice website redesign, and thanks for those words of support. We aren't perfect, but we try our best.
Retail stores are all hanging on by a thread. It's always been like that, but it gets worse every year. I wish I had e-commerce, but we failed on that front. Thanks for coming in even if you just buy wax. And don't be shy if you want to ask about price matching. I feel like people generally don't ask for deals and just buy online to avoid that awkward moment. That's pretty much why I'm going out of business! I'll get creative and make a comparable deal to shopping at online warehouses, that's easy.
Actually, we are doing well with splitboard gear. If it makes you feel proud in some way, this is our most profitable and fun category by far. Not mountain biking, climbing, tele, or AT. I'm surprised I don't sell many Prior boards though, I always have a stack of them. They are sweet! no? We have a good stock of Jones boards right now too. We are overstocked on the new DeeLuxe boots.
I'm dreaming of a new model where you guys are all partners of mine in some way and for a membership fee, you can enjoy the same pricing and privileges that we enjoy. I actually have a few deals like this with people. Interested?
