I am currently waiting for karakoram to send some replacement climbing wires, as mine are not functional (defect). I'm getting antsy though, and wanting to go out anyways. Can anyone offer their experience climbing without the climbing wires? Not ideal of course, but bearable??

Climbing wires are not a necessity. Either keep a mellow skin track, or balance on the pivot. Either way, I've gotten to the point where I rarely use them.

"No Problemo Man" because who needs the tools when your wearing the toolbag? Right! All you need is 1 beacon 2 Probe 3 voile strap and voila "Heel lifters (Edit, this fix may or may not be compatable with the K set up, make sure your beacon is fully charged)

I use the wires only on the steepest stuff. I like stretching my calves and achilles by weighting my heels. I don't think weighting your toes when climbing without wires is an efficient technique for the most part, the exception being one or two steps over a roller steeper than the slope your climbing. I feel more control traversing with the wires down and I positively don't like walking like a hooker on rolling terrain.

You can go old skool, and use a short piece of PVC tubing, with two holes drilled in it, and attach it to you binding via a short length of shock cord. Voila, custom sized heel riser you can stow in a pocket when not needed.
