My magellan sport track of many years has passed away. Any recommendations on quality new units? Thanks.

garmin etrex legend hcx - h means high sensitivity (good for trees), x means expandable (you can put a memory card in to record more data and to store maps). There is also the 'vista' version which has a barometer too, so theoretically it can give accurate barometric pressue, becase the GPS bit already knows the altitude. Never used it though.

My legend was stolen in S.A. but I was very happy with it for the two weeks I did use it ;-)

I bought a Garmin Rino130 because I thought that having a GMRS/FRS radio built into it was a neat thing. Mistake. The radio sucks, the GPS can't pick up a signal in even scattered tree cover, and it's heavy.

If I used a GPS more often, I would replace it with something smaller/lighter. I only bring it along as a security blanket when I travel above tree line in case of white out type of stuff. All other times my map and compas have been more than adequate.

So I guess I am saying, Avoid the Rino. Waste of money.
