I have seen a lot of TR's with pictures of skiers and splitters in climbing helmets. I personally like to wear my snowboarding helmet when splitting. Although it is a little heavier than a climbing helmet when climbing, I feel a little safer wearing it while charging downhill.
Which do you prefer and why?

I use my snowboard helmet. Then again I rarely do something that would involve any sort of any sort of real technical climbing with my descent. Maybe a rappel or two.
I guess I would boil it down to where you are more exposed to head injury. Snowboard helmets are not designed to protect you from rockfall and climbing helmets are not designed to protect from snowboard impact injuries. Either one will provide some protection in their opposite arena but just not as good.
If I was going to be exposed to a lot of rockfall, I might go for the climbing helmet over the snowboard helmet.
