Doggles: Are they necessary? I mean, never saw them on an arctic wolf but maybe it's a breed thing.

Also, how many of you are splittin' with Goldens? Do they do well?

have you taken your goggles or sunglasses off on a bluebird day before? i han hardly open my eyes its so bright. you are right, maybe some breeds are more adapt, but my dog which comes form the land down under is getting some for x-mas.

i think any dog will do well in the snow as long as they like snow. skinjob took his Veshla in a blizzard when i toured with him once.

high intensity UV radiation can be bad for dogs too. especially for some autoimmune diseases.

the problem with doggles is getting the dog to tolerate them enough to wear them. some dogs learn to tolerate them and some don't. and sometimes it boils down to how much of the time they will deal with them.

a golden seems to be fine. i am impressed a viszla could hang in such cold weather. i have a pitbull and he is hopeless. he can' tthermoregulate to save his life. i think putting some pam (or other substance) on the dogs feet to keep iceballs from forming is the key to a good day for him. that and teach him to stay away from you while carving (just say on to lacerations). go out for a short time the first time and see how he does. remeber not ot overdo it if your dog is still a puppy too!
